Data Methodology

How we source, verify, and present the information powering Moneta's public profiles.

1How Profiles are Selected

Unlike traditional platforms that only list elected officials, Moneta tracks the wider political ecosystem. A profile may be created for an individual if they meet any of the following criteria:

  • Currently holds an elected public office (e.g., MP, MLA, Sarpanch).
  • Has previously held an elected public office.
  • Has officially contested a recognized election.
  • Holds a verified office-bearer position within a recognized political party.
  • Is actively engaged in public leadership and meets Naxatra News editorial thresholds for public interest.

2How Data is Sourced

We rely strictly on publicly available information and official records. Data sources include:

  • Election Commission Affidavits: Used for official names, ages, educational qualifications, and asset/liability declarations.
  • Government Portals: Used to verify current elected status and constituency boundaries.
  • Official Party Records: Used to verify party affiliations and office-bearer titles.
  • Naxatra News Research: Used to aggregate public biographies and track political timelines.
Note regarding the current Demo Version: The data currently displayed on the platform is synthetic development data used for structural demonstration purposes only.

3Handling Affidavits and Assets

Financial and legal information is derived exclusively from sworn election affidavits filed by candidates. To maintain strict neutrality and accuracy:

  • We label financial figures as "Declared Assets" rather than "Net Worth", as we only report what has been officially submitted to the Election Commission.
  • We label legal history as "Cases Declared" rather than "Criminal Record", adhering strictly to the legal presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
  • If an individual has not filed an election affidavit, these sections will clearly state "Not available" rather than displaying a misleading zero.

4Verification and Corrections

Every profile displays a "Last Reviewed" date indicating when our team last verified the data against public records.

Because political statuses change rapidly, we maintain an open correction protocol. If a user identifies outdated or incorrect information, they can submit a correction request via our dedicated portal, providing a verifiable source link for review by our editorial team.
